ScrumU Small Group meeting Oct 21, 2011

Attendees: GA Tech (Greg), ND (Tracy), Wake Forest (Steve)

GA Tech - Banner Upgrade recently, decided to stick with previous plan rather than use Scrum this time, have gone to once per year upgrade and it did go well. Working on a transcript project, also thinking about version control in Banner. Considering Scrumming implementation of version management system.

Wake Forest - keeps Banner modifications in a separate "Custom Banner" folder with same name. Have automated builds. Using a hybrid Scrum/Kanban team that works on all these Banner mods. Think of Scrum as a good way to preserve a cross-functional team that needs to work together for a certain time. Hybrid is working better than pure Scrum to allow people to focus on areas of expertise rather than feeling like novices all the time working on the overall priorities. Keep a running backlog of requests, meet weekly to discuss priorities. Finding that when allow people to work on what they know best they're flying through the backlog.

Notre Dame - Additional teams starting to use Kanban to manage support request queues. Thinking about Scrum on some of our smaller scale "100 day" projects, previously we've been using Scrum for larger highly visible efforts.
