3. Wrap up and Proposal for Next Meeting – September 18 or 25, 2009 (5 minutes)

For those entirely new to Scrum, the "daily" format consists of each team member (in this case, each institution) answering three questions:
1. What have you done since the last ScrumU meeting regarding implementing Scrum at your institution?
2. What will you do between now and the next ScrumU meeting?
3. What impedes you from performing your implementation as effectively as possible?

1. What have you done since the last ScrumU meeting regarding implementing Scrum at your institution?
No formal training. Started this spring with a pilot project and three phases. FUnctional people permanently on the team. Phase 3 will be deployed
2. What will you do between now and the next ScrumU meeting?
Formal training in Sept.
3. What impedes you from performing your implementation as effectively as possible?
No formal training yet.

1. What have you done since the last ScrumU meeting regarding implementing Scrum at your institution?
Three teams using agile and started about 2 years ago. Good reports from all involved - business and tech staff like it.
2. What will you do between now and the next ScrumU meeting?
Gain mgmt commitment. Should they buy a tool or continue to use Mingle.
3. What impedes you from performing your implementation as effectively as possible?
BAs are not as interested. Java devs are enjoying - others have not yet jumped on board and have not yet been trained. Culture and managing management expectations.

1. What have you done since the last ScrumU meeting regarding implementing Scrum at your institution?
Used Lightspeed for training
175-200 people on campus are trained
Have used Scrum for 5 or 6 projects.
Matrix based organization; can one scrum team be established? Have been successful on Scrum projects because "it is what we do."
2. What will you do between now and the next ScrumU meeting?
Want to implement more TDD, pair programming to increase agiliity.
3. What impedes you from performing your implementation as effectively as possible?
BAs have changed approach from detailed rqmts to JIT rqmts and user stories.
Devs have problems focusing on iterative smaller units of work. Dev teams need to change their paradigm on how they do work.
Code reviews in pair programming is a challenge.
Campus is pushing back on agile.

Application group is interested in Scrum. Attended presentation at WFU.

Would like to attend training as budget allows.
3. What impedes you from performing your implementation as effectively as possible?

1. What have you done since the last ScrumU meeting regarding implementing Scrum at your institution?
Seven CSMs; All developers are doing Scrum for all work. Planning poker, joint sprint planning meetings between teams, Scrum of Scrums.
2. What will you do between now and the next ScrumU meeting?
Explore training direction and other agile methods to complement Scrum.
3. What impedes you from performing your implementation as effectively as possible?
BAs, PMs and other support areas are not as involved in Scrum as the developers.

7. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro

1. What have you done since the last ScrumU meeting regarding implementing Scrum at your institution?
Ginger Moore visited WFU to learn about Scrum. Looking at Scrum and self discovery. Rather than training, pull requests and try to approach as hands-on learning in 2 week sprints. Accomplished on time. "Joint decisioning" needs to occur. Daily call-ins were successful and all involved enjoyed the process.
2. What will you do between now and the next ScrumU meeting?
Will be writing articles on client side and tech side to document success. May not move into training at this time.
3. What impedes you from performing your implementation as effectively as possible?
Project managers are new to UNCG so are not mature in the organization.

8. Clemson University
John Teate

1. What have you done since the last ScrumU meeting regarding implementing Scrum at your institution?
Started in Jan 2009 using scrum. Users and development were separated. Picked up pilot project for a starter. First one was success. Second was not as successful. Users did not like the daily meetings. Lean/Iterative project is working well on this.
2. What will you do between now and the next ScrumU meeting?
Pick out parts of agile that work well. Lean thinking was already on campus so it was easier to introduce.

Cultural change has been dramatic. Management expectations and user expectations have been difficult

Heard about Scrum a year ago, heard again this year at SGHE Summit. Been a BA in the past. Interest in learning more.

Try to learn more about Scrum.

Support academic and admin software. Did online webinars to introduc the concepts. 3 folks are CSMs. Internal training was created by them - Scrum 101. 52 staff in EIS attended the Scrum 101 training. Gathered planning poker cards and did "Scrum Mechanics." Walked through the process of estimating, dailies, etc. Piloted scrum for a four week project. Using techniques,

From Summit gained interest. Implementing Scrum projects as possible. Four hours of time on project per day where they co-locate and work together. Results have been good. Training

Have not been able to fully co-located tech folks. Some product owners do not like the high level of involvement.
